The telecommunications business is a very complex environment where many different variables and sources of data must be taken into account during daily operations or as part of the decisions-making process.
While already having developped its own set of applications to deal with customer data, trouble ticketing, technical installation parameters, etc. STAR Telecom still lacked an integrated interface allowing to access the various related data in a single, harmonized, quick and efficient environment.
The STAR Integrated Environment project aimed to analyze the actual needs of the business in regards with the various sources of data and their targeted usage, assert the situation in regards with the existing tools, develop a prototype application (using MS Access GUI and internal-or-ODBC-based data access possibilities) to demonstrate how an integrated environment could look like, and draw a first project management draft detailing hardware requirements, timelines and non-technical consequences for an actual implementation.
